Fully Funded Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) program was established by the Canadian government in 2008 to increase Canada’s ability to attract and maintain world-class doctoral students and to build Canada as a global center of excellence in research and higher education. Vanier Scholars display leadership abilities as well as a high level of scholastic success in graduate studies in the social and human sciences, natural sciences, engineering, and health.

About Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Vanier CGS)

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Vanier CGS) was established to attract and retain world-class PhD candidates, as well as to position Canada as a global leader in research and higher education. VCS assists students in graduate studies in the social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, and health who display both leadership skills and a high level of scholarly performance. The fellowship is worth $50,000 each year for three years and is open to both Canadian and international PhD candidates enrolled in Canadian universities.

Aim and Benefits of CGS Postdoctoral Scholarship

The scholarship is worth $50,000 per year for three years during doctorate studies and takes into account three equally weighted selection criteria: Academic Excellence, Research Potential, and Leadership.

Requirements for CGS Postdoctoral Scholarship Qualification

The Selection Criteria for the Government of Canada Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships is based on:

• Academic Excellence
• Research Potential
• Leadership (potential and demonstrated ability)

Citizenship:

• Canadian citizens
• Permanent residents of Canada
• Foreign citizens

Areas of research:

• Health research
• Natural sciences and/or engineering research
• Social sciences and humanities research

Interview date, Process and Venue for CGS Postdoctoral Scholarship

Application Timelines:

• July – November 2022: Applicants seek a nominating institution, prepare and submit application package.
• Internal Deadline (varies): Deadline to submit application to the nominating institution. Contact nominating institution for specific date.
• November 2, 2022 (20:00 EST): Deadline for institutions to submit nominations to the Vanier CGS program.
• November 2022 – March 2023: Review and evaluation of nominations.
• Early April 2023: Anticipated notification of results. Nominees will be notified by email when the results are available on ResearchNet.
• May 1, 2023, September 1, 2023 or January 1, 2024: Payments begin.
